He's a Hipster

He's a hipster people. You've never heard of his favorite band, you've never seen his favorite dance moves, you've never experienced... well, I don't even know, but I guarantee you this, that man is a hipster. Mustache and all.

I'm not a hipster

Pictures of fisher cats, coyotes, deer and fighting foxes taken with our motion detector camera we have in the woods of Deerfield Ma.  The fisher cat is one bad arse little dude, I would love to see one in the woods some day.  The fox picture is a one in a million shot!!!  Its one of the coolest nature shots I have seen in forever and I can't believe we got it.  Basically that camera was the best $100 I ever spent.

Woods, Hiking and all that is Nature

Hipster and I have been hiking a hell of a lot in the past few weeks in preparation for a fun little event called Tough Mudder. Shockingly they changed the course after signing up from 8 miles to 10, so we have some work to do. Hiking up mountains and through the woods has only wet our appetites for spring and all the goodies we can forage for. We have thoughts of fiddle heads, ramps, morels, hen of the woods, and so much more dancing in our heads; now all we need is the weather to get straighten up.

We checked the game camera in the woods yesterday and we were pleased to discover we caught images of a fox, coyotes, a fisher cat, a raccoon, and a deer! Hipster will load up the images later. We're hoping to catch some images of a large buck that has been walking through the land. From the looks of his tracks he's a nice big fella and (thankfully) survived the past hunting season.

Today, we are working on the house. A bit of spring cleaning and some projects to get the house ready to put on the market. Fingers crossed it sells fast and for what we want.

Nerds and Hipsters Unite!

We've arrived! Hi, I'm an elementary school librarian, (the nerd), and my husband is a high school shop teacher, (the hipster). Thus, nerds and hipsters. We are currently undergoing some pretty big changes; selling our house, selling a car, moving to an apartment, designing a straw bale solar-powered home, and (hopefully) figuring out when to have a little nerd or hipster of our own. The hipster has been foraging for mushrooms and other things and I'm going along for the ride; and trying to learn a few things along the way. We decided to create a blog because as we've searched for sustainable living resources and sites, the most helpful and interesting ones seemed to come from bloggers. If we end up posting something that helps you, that's awesome! The hipster and I also like to make random things and we'll be linking to our Etsy store, eventually. Until I figure that out, feel free to shoot comments or questions our way and we'll be happy to answer.
